Together, we are committed to improving the lives of island people and sharing island solutions with the world.”

The Local2030 Islands Network is the world’s first global, island-led network devoted to addressing the climate crisis by advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through locally driven, culturally informed solutions.

The Network brings together a diverse set of island nations, states, and communities from all regions of the world -- islands connected through our shared island experiences, cultures and vision. Here, island leaders and experts from across jurisdictions meet as peers, working to develop and share innovative homegrown solutions that can change the world. Through the Network, islands are uniquely positioned to lead in the global effort in achieving a more resilient future for island Earth.

The Network’s Four Principles

Local Goals

Identify local goals to advance the SDGs and strengthen long-term political leadership on sustainable development and climate resilience.

Public-Private Partnerships

Strengthen public-private partnerships that support diverse stakeholders in integrating sustainability priorities into policy and planning.

Measurement

Measure SDG progress through tracking and reporting on locally and culturally informed indicators.

Concrete Action

Implement concrete initiatives that build island resilience & circular economy through locally appropriate solutions, particularly at the water energy-food nexus.

The Local2030 Islands Network serves as a coalition of islands dedicated to achieving progress related to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and a platform to help islands identify and advance solutions toward the SDGs.

The Local2030 Islands Network is a platform for island-led solutions, connecting islands in new ways to address climate change and sustainability. The Network provides and promotes virtual learning and sharing opportunities in a demand-driven manner including through Communities of Practice, events and webinars, highlighting “best practice” island examples, and facilitation of support for various aspects of SDG implementation.

Launched during the 74th U.N. General Assembly, the Local2030 Islands Network builds on a legacy of islands inspiring islands with the Global Island Partnership and regional challenges.
